Chris Tallentire was elected to State Parliament in 2008. His office is situated next to the Westpac Bank on Spencer Road in Thornlie.
Chris was born in northern England and migrated to Perth as a five-year-old in 1969. After completing his schooling, Chris worked in hospitality. Chris is proudly a longstanding member of the United Workers Union and continues to champion workers’ rights and conditions for local workers.
Chris is passionate about education and training, having himself completed an agriculture and business degree as a mature age student. He is proud to be part of a government that has frozen TAFE fees, reduced fees for a number of priority TAFE courses for 2020 and 2021 and has introduced requirements for large government projects to include apprenticeships and training. The opening of the Jobs and Skills Centre at Thornlie TAFE, which opened in 2018, has also provided a one-stop shop for careers, training and employment advice and assistance in our local area.
Chris also has a strong background in environmental protection, having volunteered in the landcare movement whilst studying before working in various positions at Perth Zoo and the WA Department of Environment. Before entering Parliament, Chris was Director of the Conservation Council of WA where he led the Council's environmental campaigning, policy development and community engagement.
Chris is an avid cyclist and strongly supports a number of local community and sporting groups. Chris regularly holds street corner meetings and his office is readily available to assist local residents with any queries he can assist with.
